Carter McNabb

For over 20 years, Carter has helped organisations in North America, Asia and Australia deliver rapid and sustained inventory reductions, service level improvements and supply chain cost reductions through the practical application of leading supply chain processes, techniques and systems.

He believes Supply Chain Leaders of today need to be agile and adapt their supply chains to the latest trends “Organisations need to look at their whole supply chain, the complete picture in terms of people, processes, systems and data, and figure out what the future supply chain will look like. They must continue to evolve in order to remain relevant.”

Carter has worked within Retail, Distribution, Manufacturing and Service/Repair organisations in industries ranging from Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) to Auto Parts to Defence at both strategic and operational levels. His client list includes The Super Retail Group, Wesfarmers, Mitre 10, Cadbury Schweppes, the Australian Defence Force, Honda, Qantas, Corporate Express and Amcor.

With focus areas spanning Supply Chain Strategy, Planning & Execution, Supply Chain Design, S&OP, Demand and Inventory Planning, Sourcing & Procurement and Collaborative Planning, Carter has amassed a wealth of supply chain knowledge and insights.

With a series of published articles and white papers, and having delivered Masters Courses within Monash University’s Post Graduate Program, Carter is a recognised expert in the field. He brings to SCBI, a healthy blend of theory and practical, proven experience to the subject of supply chain management.

Steve Bray

With over 20 years supply chain industry experience across Industrial, Consumer and Healthcare sectors, Steve brings significant expertise in the areas of Supply Chain Strategy, Supply Chain Network Optimisation, Supply Chain Planning and Customer Service Level management. With a strong interest in aerospace and aftermarket automotive supply chains, Steve has specialised expertise in the areas of aviation supply chain design, analysis and strategy.

One of his most notable accomplishments was co-leading an Australian Defence Force project that led to a reduction in inventory holdings by the RAAF of over $100 million. Some of Steve’s other clients include Blackwoods, GWA Group, Qantas, Scalzo, Symbion Pharmacies and ZF Group.

Steve believes that today’s supply chains need to be designed, operated and ‘flexed’ in such a way so as to always align with the business strategy and to ensure the most cost effective outcomes are continually delivered. Investing in the right tools and analysis to identify service level and inventory alignment and regularly reviewing the supply chain to ensure this alignment, is a key strategy Steve believes, can help overcome the challenges facing businesses today.

With experience delivering Masters Courses within Monash University’s Post Graduate Program and a range Inventory Optimisation and Demand Planning Courses, Steve brings to SCBI a wealth of training experience & expertise.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) and a Graduate Diploma in Logistics Management.

Luke Tomkin

Over the past decade Luke has worked with companies at both the strategic and operational level to deliver results in the areas of Supply Chain Network design, Demand and Supply Planning, Inventory Optimisation, Customer Service delivery and Financial Planning. Past and present clients include Officeworks, Mitre 10, Corporate Express, CSR, Quicksilver, Super Cheap Auto and Wesfarmers.

With a strong focus on supply chain strategy, system reengineering, optimisation & integration and organisational structure & change management, Luke has had notable achievements including the delivery of a $20m inventory reduction whilst increasing service levels for a retail client with $500m in annual sales and 250+ stores. He also led the redesign and implementation of a Demand Planning process for a major FMCG, taking service levels from less than 90% to above 98% within 18 months.

Working across multiple industries, Luke has firsthand experience of the supply chain challenges facing businesses today, and across all industries, believes the greatest of these is the need to increase responsiveness and consistency to meet customer demand. In order to overcome these challenges, Luke believes firstly that organisations need to better deliver change and ensure that systems, people and processes are all considered. Second and of equal importance is the need to deliver control to management by eliminating non value adding activity and to establish processes and systems that provide ‘one set’ of numbers all driven by an approved demand plan.

Luke brings extensive Training experience to SCBI, having run S&OP workshops across Australia, New Zealand & Singapore. He has also delivered Supply Chain Management training to executive level audiences and delivered Masters Courses within Monash University’s Post Graduate Program.

Luke holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne, and has authored a series of articles in Industry journals on Demand Planning in a retail environment.

Peter Burgess

With over 34 years industry experience, Peter has consulted to a range of commercial and Defence organisations in the FMCG, Distribution and MRO industries with clients that include Nestle, Sara Lee, Qantas, SuperCheap Auto, Toyota and the Australian Defence Force.

He has led numerous S&OP and Demand & Supply Planning process improvement projects, most notably achieving a greater than $180 million inventory reduction for Defence through inventory and process improvement initiatives.

With his earlier years spent with the RAAF as an aviation engineer leading teams through the successful implementation of numerous software and process driven reforms, Peter developed a particular interest in spare parts planning, and improving the management of repairable items and today he is firmly established as an expert in the areas of multidisciplinary planning and performance management and measurement.

One of the supply challenges of today Peter believes is keeping supply chain design and execution aligned with business objectives. Multidisciplinary planning processes that ensure the disparate parts of a business are each working to their own part of an overarching plan, is one key strategy that can be used to overcome such challenges.

Peter has been developing and delivering training packages for over 20 years, including Executive Training and Masters Courses within Monash University’s Post Graduate Program and brings a wealth of training experience to SCBI.

He holds a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering and was a contributing author to Military Logistics, published in 1996 by the University of NSW.

Through his industry and client experience, Dan believes managing the rate of business change through effective decision making forums is one of the key challenges facing today’s businesses, and is a firm supporter of the requirement to not only ensure constant review of planning processes and data, but also the need to integrate planning systems with ‘one set’ of numbers with which to drive it.

His experience delivering Training at S&OP conferences in both Australia and Asia Pacific, as well as driving internal Company wide training and education on S&OP with Lion Dairy & Drinks, make Dan a valuable addition to the SCBI team.
